If your car is stolen from campus, you will report it to the Boca Raton Police Department. This starts a number of steps in motion of investigation, reporting, and the possibility of apprehension and recovery (or not). If someone hacks your bank account, where do you report it?

Where IS your bank account? In the local branch, a far-removed bank headquarters, or wherever you reside?

That fact alone determines where the crime should be reported – it may be that you should report in multiple jurisdictions (especially if you have an account in a bank based outside the US).
