Introduction
An apple and orange are both fruits of many benefits to the health of a human being. The fact that the both contain nutrients raises the necessity to obtain a better understanding of their similarities and differences. An apple fruit is a fruit of an apple tree. Originating from Central Asia, apples are cultivated for a variety of uses including cooking, fresh consumption, and cedar production. Orange, on the other hand, is a fruit from the citrus species. The sweet orange is considered an amalgam of pomelo and mandarin, which were common since the ancient times. The orange fruit can be consumed fresh, or be processed for its juice and fragrant peel.
Apples and oranges have a number of similarities in their uses, growth and nutritious advantages to the consumers. The apple and oranges both grow on trees. AIDitionally, they both can be used to produce juices through processing, and can be consumed. Scientifically, both the apple and orange are considered to help prevent cancer though, at a minimum extent. Apples and oranges contain vital compounds that help boost the bodys immunity system to fight the growth of cancer cells. They are also considered as fruits that can be consumed to help an individual prevent heart diseases. Heart diseases are a resultant of blocked arteries resulting from unhealthy lifestyles and consumption of junk food. Apples possess phenolic compounds while oranges have flavonoids, which both are used to reduce cholesterol and prevent arteries from getting blocked leading to heart disease. Oranges and apples are also advised as the fruits that can help curb diabetes. They contain fibers that help blunt blood sugar swings in diabetics. Furthermore, both apples and oranges are considered to include small amounts of iron, zinc, manganese, and copper minerals. The fat and protein content in both the apple and oranges are considered negligible with both providing vitamin C components.
However, apples and oranges present a number of differences in very diverse areas. Despite the fact that both are fruits, oranges belong to the citrus family whereas apples belong to the rose family. Both apples and oranges appear to be of the same size; however, oranges are orange in color while, apples are found in green or red color and other varieties with colors associated to red and green. AIDitionally, while apples have a smooth skin covering, oranges have a rough skin covering. Another difference is that, oranges are tropical fruits that are associated with the warm climates; apples are temperate fruits that are grown in the cool climatic areas. In the processing to make juices, orange juice contains pulp while apple juice contains no pulp. In terms of nutrient content, apples and oranges present a difference in the constitution. While oranges contain small traces of fats, apples are considered having no traces of fat. Apples have vitamin E while, on the other hand, oranges contain no Vitamin E. The fact that both the apple and the orange include Vitamin C; orange has a higher amount of Vitamin C compared to apples. Both oranges and apples have varieties but the number of varieties of the apple and the orange differ in the numbers. Apples occur in eight varieties (Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Brae-burn, Pink Lady, and Golden Delicious) while oranges occur in five varieties (Navel orange, Persian orange, Blood orange, Valencia orange, and the Mandarin orange).
