Case Study Analysis of Ethical and Legal issues in Health Care Careers Project

Case Study Analyses Projects:
This project will require students to apply course content to a case study. The study may be media based (a review of a film holding medical ethics issues) or an example from the student’s work life.
You will produce a 5-6 page paper.

This project is worth 120 points.
Due dates related to this assignment are listed at the end of this document.

GROUP WORK OPTION:
Students have the option of making this project a team project, with up to 30 extra credit points offered for going this route.
Through mutual agreement, team members will be divide the responsibilities of obtaining the information required of the ethical analysis. You would incorporate all group members’ health careers resources in looking at the selected case study. Peer review will be included in your evaluation.
I will gather names of those students choosing this option in February, and assign teams.

Real-life case study option:

Based on a case study from student(s) work history, with careful attention to protecting the privacy of client/patient, institution, and health care workers involved.

You will user Pozgar, codes of ethics, regulatory agencies, and relevant law sources in your analysis.

– Select at lease two Ethical Concepts (ie, beneficence, justice, paternalism, nonmaleficence) that relate to care of individuals and families with the issues present.

-Exploration of health care or public policy research into how health care in specific or society in general can address these issues. Include discussion of 1-2 scholarly research articles. Provide links to these publications.

-Analysis—Explore legal and ethical concepts involved for health care workers caring for such individuals—Include legal issues focus from at least TWO areas: regulatory, criminal, and/or civil and ethical issues from at least ONE health careers Code of Ethics.
Be specific how those in your health career may use these concepts in working with such individuals and families.

Film Analysis: Ethical and Legal issues in Caring for Those at the Edge of Society

You will select a film (feature or documentary) from the list below. (If a different film is desired, it must be approved first by the instructor.)

Issues addressed in the films include poverty, the sex trade industry, immigration, elderly, dementia, etc. Films listed are available on NETFLIX, Hulu, YouTube, and DVD.

You will user Pozgar, codes of ethics, regulatory agencies, and relevant law sources in your analysis.

– Select at lease two Ethical Concepts (ie, beneficence, justice, paternalism, nonmaleficence) that relate to care of individuals and families with the issues present.
