Marketers use sales promotions to enter new products in the market or to move the old products in the market quickly. Sales promotions are designed to increase or stimulate demand for products by increasing their market presence or availability and awareness. Promotions are normally targeted to the consumers, retailers and distributors’ .This can be done through a variety of devices which include contests, displays, rebates, coupons, premiums among other devices used by the marketers. These devices are applied in such promotion techniques as price deals, reward programs, product trials, discounts offers and interactive products promotion games or contests. Since promotions are designed to ensure effective or successful products entry into the market or to help an established product move quickly success in the promotions results increased sales and product recognition. For those products that are already in the market or the established brands effective sales promotions besides earning products wider markets and increased recognition the brands accrues brand equity. This is the result that an established brand earns when compared to the unknown products (Kapferer 14). In other words old products or more appropriately products that are already in the market are subjected to a sales promotion through any of the sales promotion techniques. The expected results are that the product consumers are reminded of the product to renew their interest and stimulate more sales not to mention earning new customers. The sales promotions also bring the products closer to the consumers and make them more available. This implies that the products visibility is increased to the consumers and the retailers which increase the consumers’ interest in the products. Some of the promotions are designed to reward or discount sale prices to the consumers on such conditions as increasing or buying given quantities of the products that are being promoted. The resultant effect of such marketing gimmicks to the known brands is that their sales and visibility rises. This is when the product or brand earns equity
