The evolution of nursing science

This week, Chapter 18 discussed the evolution of nursing science. Starting with logical positivism, which believes knowledge comes from observable, measurable, and verifiable information usually moving in a linear, logical path. Carper’s work on the four ways of knowing in nursing is also presented as the other parts of nursing knowledge. Postmodernism is an experiential approach and we see the words used in qualitative research: hermeneutics, narrative traditions, critical social theory and feminism.
