Part1: Summary Of the Article
The point of this assignment is not to analyze the article but to be as clear as possible about what it says. This may sound counter-intuitive, since analysis is a main aspect of academic writing. In order to analyze something effectively, though, it is important to first examine it thoroughly. You may use either paragraph or outline form to write the summary. The two key things are to explain the author’s main point and then to lay out the evidence he or she uses to back up and develop that point. Notice the word “develop” here. Good essays do not simply reiterate one idea; instead, they add complexity as the argument progresses. The summary should be a minimum of 400 words!!!!
Part 2: Summary of the research
Please find five or six websites that are relevant to your topic and that you can use as evidence. Again review the full paper assignment to get a sense of where the essay is headed. Find sources that are reliable and appropriate. There is a lot of leeway here. Give some thought to whether it would be reasonable to trust the information. For each website, present a summary of the relevant information and explain how you will use it in your essay. Provide a link to each website. The research summary should be 500 words minimum!!!
Part 3: Essay Outline
Please write an outline for your essay. Review again the specific instructions for the paper itself. Prepare the online to include each paragraph of the essay you will write: two introductory paragraphs, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion. In writing the essay, you may depart from the outline if it seems logical to do so. Make the outline as detailed as possible, though, so that you have a working plan for the paper. The paper outline should be 500 words minimum!!
Part 4: Essay
This paper is in the form of agree/disagree. Pick one of the readings we have done thus far in the course, and write an essay explaining whether you agree or disagree with the author’s central argument. If you agree with some parts and disagree with others, that’s fine. Just explain your view as clearly as possible. This assignment is divided into parts, beginning with a summary of the article, followed by a summary of the research you have done to supplement the information in the article, an outline of the paper, and then the final draft. Each of these parts of the assignment will be due one day at a time and graded individually. The reason for this is to enable you to build writing skills step by step. The assignments for each step will be posted for the day that it is due. This paper should be a minimum of 2,000 words. Use MLA style to cite the sources. Remember the importance of the word “develop” here. Good essays do not simply reiterate one idea; instead, they add complexity as the argument progresses.
