Introduction
The rift between the American North and South is an affair which happened gradually, with the simmering nature of politico economic tension between the two polarities increasing with the accentuation of time. This tension and subsequent rift between the North and South remains monumental in the hallmarks of the US history as it culminated into the (1861-1865) American Civil War.
There are several factors which led to the conflict between the North and the South. The factors are discussed hereunder.
1) Slavery and the Constitutional Convention: 1787
Majority of the northern states in the US abandoned the institution of slavery after the American Revolution. In the other end, it continued to flourish in the plantation colonies and economy of the South, from this point, debates about the Three Fifths Clause touching of the 1787 Constitutional Convention. The Compromise of the 1820 set in, to be rapidly succeeded by the Nullification Crisis.
